Georgina Obaya Evans

Georgina Obaya Evans is an Art Psychotherapist, Artist and Yoga therapist-practitioner. She is occupied with thinking about formation of ‘Self’ and ‘Other’ and how we become who we are. She explore's the development of self as emergent, relational and influenced by both conscious and unconscious forces. Through these lenses, she considers identity as manifestations of body, heart and mind that give rise to memory and a shifting sense of self over time. These themes are explored through my interdisciplinary practices of Art, Psychotherapy and embodied group facilitation.

I consider my creative and therapeutic practices to be mutually informing. They occupy different
contextual parameters of use: art in the cultural domain, bodywork in the wellbeing sector and
art therapy in the community, schools, or in a hospital ward. They are all bound by the different
considerations that influence the holding and unfurling of creative and therapeutic dynamics and
processes. These arise within social (e.g. legal, cultural) frameworks of a given environment to
encourage, enable, and at times constrict, activity in the relational integrations that support
healing and creative self-expression.

Read Georgina's reflections on her role in the project. Here, she considers 'shifting boundaries', 'absent trauma' and participation, considering the complexities and opportunities of her dual role as art therapist and participant.
