The evolution of Sound System Culture in Tottenham

This panel talk took place on the 15th August 2024 and explores the memories and experiences of those involved in the Sound System culture of Tottenham from the 1970's onwards, reflecting on the impact of this on the changing genres of music up to the present day. Curated by Mark Professor (Selectors Showcase and Might Ruler Sound System) and produced by TSN's Jade Chao, the talk featured legends Mandingo, MC Navigator, Mary Otumahana (WonDRWomN), Shocka and Clasford Stirling MBE. With the elder generations speaking about what it was like back at the beginning and the younger generation of artists on the panel speak about what it's like now and the experiences that inspired them. The results are a documentation of the importance of Tottenham and in particular of the Broadwater Farm Estate in the wider history of Black Music in the UK.
